DESCRIPTION
The Halcyon Arms designed and built OH-78 Scoutrider is an all-weather medium-lift reconnaissance compound helicopter, designed to be a scout and fire-director. It is powered by two turboshaft engines and utilizes two four-blade rotors in a counter-rotating system. While unnecessary due to it's counter-rotating rotors, it also utilizes a NOTAR (No Tail Rotor) airjet system in the tail, allowing for 360o maneuverability of the tail and additional forward thrust. Additionally, for forward thrust it has two six-bladed wing-mounted rotors, giving the Scoutrider speed and rate-of-climb not normally attainable by a helicopter. The helicopter is powerful for it's size and can fill most cargo roles of similar classifications of helicopter, fitting a larger pair of engines than the typical Rider.
The OH-78 features a variety of reconnaissance and spy equipment, and serves it's role best as a fire director for artillery, other aircraft, or warships to ensure proper target acquisition and confirmation of destruction. It is fully capable of night operations utilizing multiple radars and infrared imaging systems. The Scoutrider also is equipped with a high definition Wide-Array Real-time Advanced Multi-Spectral Imaging System, allowing it to capture a high volume of high-resolution images at great distance simultaneously, giving the singular helicopter the capabilities of numerous spotters.
Landing gear are configured in a tricycle pattern and, during flight are retracted into the fuselage for higher speed and to prevent damage.
